Spain, a country that resides in the Iberian peninsula, is full of diversity and culture from its cuisine, language, history, and even topography! The country has everything from deserts, mountains, rocky coastlines, lush greenery, and sandy beaches. Go to Cadiz for the beaches and 3 hours northeAst go to the Sierra Nevada mountain range for skiing and cheap tapas in Granada. On Spain’s surface, people tend to see only Ibiza for partying and then Madrid and Barcelona two of Spain’s biggest cities. While these locations are great there’s a myriad of other amazing locations to see and adventures to be had within Spain. Here’s a list of places you may not have thought to go see within Spain!
Sevilla
Nestled in the southern portion of the country in the Andalucía region is Sevilla! A beautiful city with its gothic architecture, the crowds are far less than that of Madrid or Barcelona, traditional Spanish Cuisine, The best place for true Flamenco, and as all of Spain’s cities an unforgettable nightlife! Sevilla is a city rich in history, beautiful, affordable, and can offer something for everyone whether it be partying, wine tasting, art, history, or just a little bit of it all!
Granada
Another wonderful City inside Andalucía in Granada! With amazing views of the Sierra Nevada mountains, free tapas(yes I said free), and Muslim influence from the Moore’s that had hold of the region centuries ago. Granada is an absolute marvel of a city to visit. While walking down the beautiful stone streets and seeing all the buildings with spectacular Spanish architecture to turning a corner and seeing old middle eastern influenced architecture all with the backdrop of gorgeous mountains. Granada has been in my opinion the best city I’ve traveled to in Spain. From visiting the Alambra to ordering cheap beer and being served free tapas with every drink, to trekking outside the city to the foothills of the mountains to take in nature and all its beauty. Granada has it all and doesn’t have huge crowds so you can wander and explore in peace!
A Coruña
This coastal wonder in the north of Spain is one not to be missed! A city on the northwest coast with natural land features that will make you feel like you’re in the UK is, A Coruña. From the rocky coast and beautiful beach to the rich seafood selection on the menus, this city is a must-see while in the Galician region of Spain. The region here even has its own language, Galician (Gaellgo en español) which has some similarities to Spanish but definitely not the same. Coruña is home to the Spanish beer “Estrella Galicia” where you can tour the brewery after you visit the UNESCO World Heritage site Torre de Hércules and eat some of Coruña’s finest Pulpo a la Gallega. Coruña is beautiful, the architecture is filled with windows that face the sea which is filled with docked sailboats and personal craft that breathes a nice quant sean life essence to the town.
Ronda
A small town split by a gorge not far from Granada and Cordoba is Ronda. While you may not spend a whole week here this is a great day trip to be had. This town has beautiful scenery from the famous bridge that connects each side of the town to the fields and valleys viewed from the park and mirador. As of most cities in Spain though small this town has plenty of history within it from the bullfighting ring, architecture, and Roman origins.
